This was the first bit of work I made after arriving in Venice. The title uses the Italian verb tirare, "to pull", and makes it reflexive, thus meaning "to pull oneself." The title and the imagery were both very intuitive, but I believe they reflect the emotions I was feeling while slowly acclimating to a foreign language and culture. Living abroad, I like to say, is challenging because it makes you relive your childhood. You are very dependant on the people around you, and you have to suppress a lot of fears and urges.
They were also inspired by a certain method of reading Tarot cards, and the titles reflect this. I am fascinated by the idea that we as humans continue to want to know things that are unknowable, and that we devise methods that attempt to percieve these things. Is it possible to know how others see us, how we wish to be seen and how we really are?
